Melbourne-based technology company Newtracs, are creating a new way to plan your next 4WD trip. Their app will be able to collate and provide 4WDers with information such as: track grade, travelling speed and time to complete, significant obstacles, track length, last known date the track was completed, and track warnings such as water crossings, snow, and steep declines.

Already with 3000 off-road tracks assessed and compiled thanks to data submitted by users, Newtracs is looking to change the way you plan, and travel, out bush. Newtracs CEO James Nuccio says, “Newtracs provides users with accurate and up-to-date information that until now has been very difficult to find. It’s a little like an off-road Google Maps or Waze. It’s the future of 4WDing”.

To gather the data for the app, the Newtracs team is relying on 4WDers to provide GPS trip logs of tracks all over the country. They are even offering a special deal for those who do contribute. For 500km of usable GPS trip logs, they will give you a one-year subscription to the premium package of Newtracs valued at $100, for free.

The Newtracs team says that the app will function offline, and the basic level of the app’s access will be free. With the iOS app due to be released in August and the Android version due by the end of the year, check out newtracs.com.au, to find out how to contribute to this innovative piece of 4X4 technology.
