Yep, it’s time for a change. And I’m sure anyone reading this will be shaking their head in disbelief, why would anybody quit the dream job in the 4WD industry? Well, the reality is, if you want to be any good in this role, it will consume you. In the last month alone I’ve been to W.A. with Isuzu checking out the Coral Coast, I’ve played with modified Jimnys in the snow in NSW and hit the tracks in the new JL Wrangler and Ford Ranger Raptor. And been paid for the privilege.

It’s impossible to put into words how much fun that is, but it isn’t all Simpson Desert sunsets and beers on Fraser Island. You see, these magazines don’t stop. By the time you’ve finished one issue, the next one is already late. Combine that with social media, videos for Youtube and the general day-to-day of managing Unsealed 4X4, so, let’s just say that after five years I’m pretty knackered. Unsealed 4X4 deserves some fresh blood to carry it on into the future, it’s time for someone else to have a run.

I’ve been blessed to be involved with Unsealed 4X4 for so long, from my early days busting snatch straps to see which one you should spend your money on, to travelling to nearly every state in the country testing new vehicles, it’s been a wild ride I’ll never forget. Here’s a bit of trivia, the first article I wrote for Unsealed 4X4 was about the pre-launch of the Ford Everest; I’ve been here longer than the Everest has been on-sale.

I must say, and I know this sounds cliched, the thing I’ll miss the most are the amazing people I’ve met along the way. From CEOs to freelance photographers and videographers, there hasn’t been a day I haven’t laughed my head off. And for that, I say thank you for the memories. I’ve worked with some of the best talent in the industry (you know who you are), and I’m proud to now call these people friends.

To our wonderful sponsors, I say thank you for the support and keen involvement. We’re blessed to be working with the best and brightest companies in the Australian 4WD sector; the best in the world in my opinion.

Lastly, and most importantly, thank you for reading. Without you, Unsealed 4X4 simply wouldn’t exist. Bunch of legends, each and every one of you!

So, what’s next? Well I’ll still be working in the 4WD industry. And hopefully still writing a few yarns from time-to-time, but right now, it’s time to load up my HiLux, and hit the road. I’ve been telling you how to live the dream for five years, and it’s about time I took my own advice.

Cheers,
Ev

TIME TO HIT THE ROAD

After 61 issues and nearly five years of my life, two of those as Editor, it’s time for a break. Thanks for reading.
