Ford has brought out a new special edition version of its extremely popular Ranger, the Ranger Sport. However, like most vehicles these days, having ‘sport’ in the name doesn’t necessarily correlate to sporty performance.
Built off the XLS model of the Ranger, the Sport is said to be targeting younger buyers by providing the technology they want but without the price tag that comes with it. It also receives some added cosmetic touches like any good special edition should.

The Ranger Sport doesn’t get the controversial 2.0-litre Raptor engine or the impressive 10-speed auto. It gets the five-cylinder 3.2-litre turbo diesel paired to either a six-speed manual or six-speed auto transmission. Very sporty.
The desired technology that the Sport gets in addition to the XLS includes keyless entry, push-button start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, factory satellite navigation, and dual-zone climate control. The Sport also receives AEB, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, and automatic high beam and traffic sign recognition as standard. True to the style of special editions, the Ranger Sport receives elaborate cosmetics, such as side steps, sports bar, tub liner, front grille, and mirrors, all in whatever colour you want, as long as it’s black. There are also a couple of Sport badges around just to remind you.
The Ranger Sport’s price starts from $47,790 driveaway for the manual, only $3000 more than the XLS priced at $44,790 driveaway. This is impressive pricing seeing as Ford claim the Ranger Sport provides an extra $6000 of value in equipment.
