MITCHELL’S TRITON
Mitchell loves to getaway with his dirt bike and mountain bike with his trusty Mitsubishi Triton. Bought new, Mitchell has been chipping away building it up with the aim to eventually have his ultimate tourer. So far he has got a dual-battery set-up in the canopy, a tow pack, and a suspension upgrade so it rides better with the bikes behind. He still has a massive wish list of modifications ahead of him (don’t we all) with upcoming purchases of a bull bar and some new off-road-friendly rubber lined up. Mitchell already has trips planned to Fraser Island later this year and the aspirational Cape York trip in 2020, which he’s building it up for. We look forward to hearing about the trips and seeing the finished product, of what will be a great Triton.

ADAM’S Y62 AND GQ PATROL
Adam is from sunny Victoria, and has had more 4WDs than days at the beach. When we first met Adam, he had a V8 100 Series LandCruiser, however he has traded camps with his latest acquisition, a Y62 Patrol. You see, Adam is pretty handy on the tools, and has a shed that would make most workshops envious. With all that talent, and the man cave of your dreams, he has built a GQ Patrol to tackle the harder tracks in Victoria. Oh, it’s a turbo motor but it’s not diesel. Adam has instead bolted a snail to the side of a TB42 motor, which has enough power to see those Maxxis Trepadors spinning mud all the way to NSW. It seems Adam likes to have his cake and eat it too – a nice comfy Y62 to drive during the week, and come knock-off, hitch up the GQ and go for a play. Nice work mate, we’ll have to join you on your next adventure.

DAN’S GU PATROL
Dan is no stranger to 4WDing, having cut his teeth with DIY-modified Suzuki Sierras, a Vitara and Jimny. He was an active member of the Auszookers community, where you can find pictures of his very well-used Zooks. He’s moved up to a GU Patrol in the last few years, which he has been building up to suit his needs over time. It’s a 4.5-litre petrol that he wishes was a TD42, but it does everything he’s asked of it just with the added fuel bill that comes with a big petrol motor. It’s got a factory bull bar, stainless snorkel, a set of Goodyear rubber and the right mods for the terrain found in NSW where Dan resides. Future mods include a set of PSR and Superior Engineering control arms, and rumour has it a steel rear bar with swing-away tyre carrier has just been ordered. Gotta love tax return time, money for 4WD parts!

CHRIS’S NL PAJERO
Chris is another person who cut his teeth with Zooks, building up some extremely iconic vehicles in the past. There was a green LWB Sierra, and a red LWB Vitara with a custom camper from memory, however after years of off-roading, the Vitara snapped the chassis. Both vehicles were parted out to live on in other builds around the country though, which is comforting in a way. Chris’s latest 4X4 is the NL Pajero you see before you. Chris has already taken it across on the boat to Tasmania for a trip of a lifetime in the Apple Isle. While Chris is on a pension, that doesn’t hold him back from doing the majority of the work to the NL Paj himself. It has an auto-locker in the front, a bit of a lift and a custom sleeping platform in the back, so Chris and his trusty pup who travels with him, have somewhere nice and dry to sleep without having to tow or spend time setting up camp each night. It shows what you can do on a budget, if you develop a plan and stick to it.
