“How was your weekend”? “Not long enough”… yeah, that’s how most conversations start on a Monday morning in workplaces all across the country. But with the recent Easter and ANZAC Day break, we finally had a taste of a decent amount of time off to dust off the camping gear, call old mates and hit the road. That was certainly my plan, however due to a death in the family and a very ill wife, plans changed.

It was still so refreshing to have a mid-year break though; some time to clear the cobwebs out of the old noggin, spin spanners on my 4WDs, sleep in and eat too much food. It was nice to be able to pay respect to the diggers at my local RSL club also, and support the local economy in the form of amber ale and a delicious feed … even though I made the call to stay away from two-up this year. A decision my bank account appreciated.

It got me thinking, judging by my Facebook feed at least, many of you were lucky enough to get away to some amazing locations over the break. I would love to hear about your trip. I saw loads of people head to the Victorian High Country, plenty of people went to Fraser and Moreton Island as well. It’s a tricky one to balance, as so many people have time off the more accessible campgrounds are bound to be packed to the brim. If you did find somewhere that wasn’t busy, pass that info on to your fellow 4WDers. Oh, we’re not asking you to give up your secret campsite, I wouldn’t either … but if there was somewhere well-known (or remote) that met your seal of approval, let us know in the comments.
